The 2008 Grammy Nominations were annoyed last night via the “The Grammy Nominations Concert Live!! — Countdown to Music’s Biggest Night” on CBS. LL Cool J and Taylor Swift hosted the event, while Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera, Celine Dion, and the Foo Fighters performed songs that have been honored with the Grammy Hall of Fame award.
Carey opened the show on a seasonal note with Christmas (Baby Please Come Home). Performances ranged from Christina Aguilera covering the Gershwin classic I Loves You Porgy to the Foo Fighters lending a shot of testosterone to Carly Simon’s You’re So Vain. Swift crooned I’m Sorry, Dion served up a medley of At 17 and My Love and King jammed with John Mayer on Let the Good Times Roll.
Recording Academy president Neil Portnow hopes the roster of talent will jump-start Grammys season with greater pizazz than the early-morning press conferences of previous years. “Everyone wants to know who’s nominated. We had an opportunity to raise the bar and tell this story in a much bigger fashion.”
